HOW AND WHERE TO KNIT

A large part of our production range is Knitwear. The yarn we order from italian and british spinning mills is sent directly to the knitting factory to be processed.
For many years we have been working together with the company Strickchic in Apolda in Thuringia.
The first step is making sample pieces according to our cuts and designs. These are then developed and refined until the pieces can go into production.
The company Strickchic was founded in 1896 in Apolda. It is a family run business combining highly qualified professionals, the latest technology and generations of experience.
The pieces are knitted on knitting machines with different gauge - 12 gauge, 8 gauge and 5 gauge. The gauge indicates how many "knitting needles" go into an inch and depends on the yarn gauge. It essentially determines the stitch pattern. Coarse yarns are knitted with gauge 5, fine with gauge 12.
The knitting machines are computer controlled and it takes a programmer to write the appropriate program before each piece to be knitted.

All Knitwear is washed before assembly. By doing so we can guarantee that the pieces are machine washable on cold cycle without shrinking. The single components are knitted in slightly larger size, and after washing they fit our patterns.
This is of course a very labor intense work process that we can only afford because we are a relatively small company with a manageable output. It would be unthinkable on an industrial scale.
After washing and drying, the parts are steamed and then made up.
We use high quality Merino wool, Lambswool, Cotton or Viscose-linen mixture from italian spinning mills. Here also we like to continuously work with the same mills in order to guarantee the quality and properties of the fabrics, and can incorporate them in the production process.
We know the quality and characteristics of the yarns well and can incorporate this into the production process. All processed yarns are 100% mulesing-free and from sustainable cotton or forestry.
